Casa Dental has quickly become a dynamic and fast-growing private dental practice. Led by Dr Jeevan Boyal, this thriving three-surgery practice has been rapidly expanding its services due to increasing patient demand and exciting expansion plans. When Dr Boyal first acquired the practice, it already had a dental plan in place with Denplan. However, as he settled into ownership and took a deeper look at what the provider was offering in terms of service, support and value, it became clear that he was paying a very high admin fee for what he felt was not a very good service or value overall.

Declining Denplan’s Retention Strategy

He wanted to switch to another plan provider to reduce costs and align with a plan partner focused on his vision for growth for his practice, while maintaining a seamless patient experience during the transition from one plan provider to another. Dr Boyal explored several different dental plan providers, comparing not only the financial implications but also the level of expertise available to support a transition. Ultimately, he chose Patient Plan Direct because he felt the team would provide expert-led support and guidance to launch a revised membership plan under the Casa Dental brand.

What became clear during this process was that, if the terms of the membership plan remain the same, patients were unfazed by a change in plan provider. For Casa Dental, the outcome has been exceptional. They lost only two patients out of 600 during the switch process and saved approximately £8,000 in year one. This is a phenomenal result for any new business and a significant step forward in strengthening the practice’s long-term stability.

Denplan worked extremely hard to retain the practice, offering a substantial lump sum, but only on the condition that Casa Dental sign a new contract tying the practice in for another 3 years. However, on closer inspection, the numbers did not add up financially. More importantly, the offer didn’t sit well with Dr Boyal. It felt there wasn’t enough focus on improving support and service, and the cash incentive didn’t align with the practice’s principles. As he says, no company hands out money without taking far more back, and this highlighted how much profit Denplan was likely making from its clients to hand out thousands in a golden handshake.

Jeevan comments on the team’s support, which has been excellent, and on the training delivered to his management team, which has been efficient, professional, and genuinely helpful, without him having to be involved, which is ideal as he is extremely busy.
